Cerebral palsy can present with different signs and symptoms depending on the child's age and the areas affected.
Cerebral palsy manifests at various stages of development.
In early infancy, the child may present as irritability, crying continuously, convulsions, delayed head control, not recognising mother, not responding to sound etc.
In late infancy he may present as delayed walking, abnormal movements of hands or legs, stiffness of body, walking on toes, sitting in between legs or ‘W’ sitting, bunny hopping, legs make scissors movements, joints being too tight and do not open etc.
Abnormal movements like twisting, jerking of hands or legs.
Seizures may also be seen in children with cerebral palsy.
Delayed speech or development or hearing impairment is also seen in some children.
Difficulty in sucking, swallowing, drooling of saliva, vomiting and constipation.
Irregular breathing may occur in some children.
Inability to understand passage of urine and stools.
